Methyl SAP provides a combination of scientifically supported doses of B vitamins in their ACTIVE forms (folate, vitamin B₆, vitamin B₁₂) which may help to manage high homocysteine levels, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. 

Elevated blood homocysteine is also thought to relate to onset of diseases of the brain and kidneys and to diabetic complications. Elevated homocysteine levels are often observed in the elderly and in individuals with compromised nutrition, gastrointestinal disorders or a genetic tendency for hyperhomocysteinemia.

At the molecular level, the main function of folate is to donate methyl groups in key biochemical reactions. Adequate folate status is particularly critical for proper neural and cellular development of the fetal central nervous system. Folate promotes healthy cellular differentiation during the formation of the brain and spinal cord, helping to reduce the risk of neural tube defects when taken daily prior to becoming pregnant and during early pregnancy.
